What is Drawn Over Mandrel?
Drawn Over Mandrel is a type of finishing process after the manufacturing process of tubular pipes.
It is considered a high-quality tube finishing method, constructed from SAE 1020 or 1026 steel grades, widely used under ASTM A513 specification. The initial stages of manufacturing are cold drawn Electric Resistance Welded Tubes.

Def:- The process of giving the finishing touch after ERW pipes which indulges removing for entire flash weld and cold drawing of tubes over a mandrel.
Why is it necessary?
Welding leaves back the spots (known as ‘seam’ in pipe industry), on the conjunction points in ERW manufactured pipes. To clear those spots and give end result unlike Seamless Tubes and Pipes, Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) is necessary.
The finished tubes are usually wrongly referenced as seamless tubes after DOM process but what it actually does have a seam which is almost invisible.
What exactly happens inside the Manufacturing Mill?
The seam clearing element inside the Mill is in the oscillation motion which removes the welded spots and works as a cutter.
A small amount of residue is collected after every clearing session.
